60-year-old man jumps into fire pit during Muharram festivities in Kurnool district

Tirupati, August 21, 2021: A 60-year-old man who was in a highly inebriated state jumped into a pit of fire and died during Muharram festivities in Kurnool district In the late hours on Friday. The deceased was identified as Panyam Venkata Subbaiah.

According to Owk SI Jagadeeswara Reddy, Venkata Subbaiah who hails from the neighbouring Kasipuram village came to Sunkesula village to witness the Peerla Panduga festivities being organized at the village around midnight on Thursday.

Villagers who were celebrating the festival after the pit of fire was lit up first noticed Venkata Subbaiah moving around dangerously close to the fire. After reprimanding him, the locals forced Venkata Subbaiah to sit at an isolated bench nearby.

After some point of time when everyone present there were completely lost in the Peerla Panduga festivities, Venkata Subbaiah once again got close to the pit of fire and suddenly jumped into it.

Though villagers tried to rescue him, Venkata Subbaiah who sustained severe burn injuries all over his body was already dead according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Owk police who learnt about the incident rushed to the spot and shifted the victim’s body to the local area hospital for postmortem and registered a case.
