Vijayawada, August 18, 2021: An Andhra Pradesh BJP leader was on Friday injured in an attack by unidentified men in Guntur over the alleged demolition of a Shiva temple, police said.

In his complaint to the police, BJP leader Madam Ramesh alleged that masked men attacked him when he was going out for a morning walk.

Madam Ramesh also claimed that local municipal commissioner Srinivasa was behind the attack on him. Madam Ramesh had earlier complained against the commissioner for allegedly demolishing a Shiva temple, sources said.

The alleged attack on BJP’s Madam Ramesh sparked a political controversy with the saffron party hitting out at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

BJP national secretary and Andhra Pradesh co-incharge, Sunil Deodhar, alleged that the attack was staged by the ruling YSRCP and “goons” supported by municipal officials according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.

Sunil Deodhar tweeted, “I strongly condemn the murderous attack on BJP’s Vinukonda Town President M Ramesh, who has been protesting against the demolition of Shiv Mandir in Vinukonda town. This attack staged by the YSRC goons also reportedly has involvement of municipal officials.”

“Mr YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would you dare to demolish a mosque or Church for such developmental work? This vengeful attitude towards Hindu places of worship will not be tolerated by people of AP. We won’t sit quiet with folded hands, Mr. CM. Beware! Take immediate action,” he added.
