Amaravati, November 20, 2021: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu burst into tears at the party office while talking to reporters on Friday, shortly after he walked out of the Andhra Pradesh assembly session.
He said in the house before walking out with all other TDP members that YSRCP leaders had earlier made wild allegations against his wife and that the speaker was not letting him make a point.
The exchange took place while MLAs were discussing agricultural issues and the speaker had muted Naidu’s mic after a point.
Naidu claimed that he would not return to the house until he is elected as chief minister again.
Recalling the alleged humiliation in the assembly, Naidu wept before reporters.
TDP to boycott ongoing session of assembly and council in protest.
The TDP leader took several seconds before speaking again. “I have never experienced such pain in my long political life,” he said. “I have so far tolerated many insults in the assembly for the sake of the people. Today, they (YSRC) deliberately insulted my wife who sacrificed many things in her life to encourage my public service,” Naidu said.
YSRCP leaders however said Naidu was smarting from the recent political defeats, having lost a number of by-polls and civic elections, and walked out because he felt embarrassed. They denied attacking Naidu’s wife.
But Naidu insisted he would not have felt so much pain had they not humiliated his family, particularly the women who have never involved themselves in party affairs.
He said Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father, had also humiliated his mother in the assembly and apologised after realising his mistake.
He criticised Jagan and his legislators for ‘unleashing an unruly atmosphere’ in the assembly only to target Opposition members. He said it was unfortunate that assembly speaker Thammineni Sitharam did not control the members while they targeted his family.
He said speaker wantonly cut his mike while addressing the House.
“People should also realise the dangers from the YSRC and join hands with me to fight against the atrocities of the YSRC government. Because, power is never an issue for me,” said Naidu. He further said they would not resort to such abuses as going down to such levels was not party’s policy according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Later in the day, Naidu held discussions with the party leaders at NTR Bhavan. TDP MLAs and MLCs have decided to boycott the ongoing session of assembly and council in protest against Naidu’s alleged humiliation.
