Vijayawada, July 28, 2021: Proddatur was converted into a garrison on Tuesday ahead of a march of BJP workers from Andhra Pradesh against the setting up of a statue of Tipu Sultan in the town.
The BJP chief of Andhra unit, Somu Veerraju, who is on a ‘Devalaya Darshanam’ campaign, was scheduled to visit the junction where a Tipu Sultan statue has been proposed by the ruling party according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.
Ahead of his arrival, there was a heavy deployment of police in the town. The police later detained the protesters along with Somu Veeraraju.
Somu Veeraraju alleged ‘institutional conversion’ in the state and claimed, “The Andhra government is more concerned about the installation of a statue of Tipu Sultan at Proddatur while Hindu temples are facing threats.”
