Vijayawada, July 08, 2022: The state government on Thursday told the Andhra Pradesh high court that it was considering to continue Dulhan scheme and sought time to submit details. The state had earlier told the HC that the scheme was discontinued owing to precarious financial situation. The HC directed state to submit an affidavit stating that the scheme was discontinued due to lack of funds.
However, on Thursday, when the matter came for hearing, special government pleader C Sumon told the high court that the state was considering to continue the scheme. The state government sought four weeks’ time to submit details. Social activist Farooq Shubli moved the high court with a public interest litigation (PIL) contending that the YSRC government promised Muslim community to enhance financial assistance from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh to the newly married women from the community under the Dulhan scheme according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Instead of enhancing the financial assistance to Rs 1 lakh, the existing scheme was discontinued which is nothing but cheating with false promises to get votes, said the petitioner. As the state government told the HC that it is considering to introduce the scheme again, the high court bench headed by Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice D V S S Somayajulu granted four weeks to the state government to submit the details.
