Tirupati, January 15, 2022: A row which has erupted between the Tirupati airport officials and the Tirupati Municipal Corporation has drawn the attention of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

According to reports, the spat first began when Tirupati airport officials reportedly denied passes to certain state government officials who accompanied deputy mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy when they went to the airport to receive state municipal minister Botsa Satyanarayana on January 9.

Following brief arguments, Bhumana Abhinay Reddy and his entourage received minister Botsa Satyanarayana and left the airport.

According to Tirupati airport director S Suresh, the very next day, water supply was suspended to the airport and the airport staff quarters.

Meanwhile, opposition parties, including the TDP and the BJP accused that the suspension of water supply to the airport and the staff quarters was an act of vengeance by the ruling YSR Congress Party leaders according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao sent a letter to civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia demanding an enquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, Tirupati Municipal Corporation clarified that the whole episode was being blown out of proportion and that the opposition parties were trying to mislead the public.
The civic body also clarified that the Tirupati Airport Authority officials did not obtain a UDS connection, which led to water contamination because of which water had to be suspended for a brief period due to maintenance issues.
Tirupati airport director also confirmed to TOI that the water supply was restored both to the airport and the staff quarters after a brief period of suspension due to maintenance issues.

“The issue is resolved now and water supply has been restored,” confirmed the airport director.
