Vijayawada, November 24, 2025: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications and Guntur MP, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, has said that the Andhra Pradesh Government is making efforts to get a Bill passed in Parliament to accord legal status to Amaravati as the permanent capital of the State.
He noted that recognising Amaravati as the permanent capital was crucial to overcome the complications that stalled development between 2019 and 2024. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had already discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and it remained to be seen whether the Bill would secure Parliamentary approval in the upcoming sessions, he added.
It may be recalled that the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) Government had proposed a three-capital model under the Andhra Pradesh Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020. The High Court struck down the Act as unconstitutional, and the State later challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court.
According to the reports published in thehindu.com the current TDP-led Government subsequently informed the apex court that Amaravati would remain the sole capital and committed to developing it within three years.
Mr. Chandra Sekhar said that of the 33,411 acres of land pooled for the capital region, plots in about 719 acres were yet to be allotted, including 126 acres in Lanka villages, 37 acres of assigned lands, and some parcels involved in court cases. Allocation for 9,625 acres of Jareebu lands had been completed without any issues.
Further, the Union Minister said that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for LPS infrastructure development in 25 villages would be ready by December 30, and works were targeted for completion within six months thereafter.
Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana, Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar, CRDA Commissioner K. Kanna Babu, and Additional Commissioner A. Bhargav Teja were present.
