Chittoor Police arrests 8 men after unsuccessful bank robbery in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada, June 04, 2022: A gang of eight men were arrested by the Chittoor Police in Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday, June 2, after an unsuccessful bank robbery.

Inspired by the movie KGF-2, the gang planned to rob a bank and failed. The accused were arrested for attempting to rob the Saptagiri Gramin Bank in Vijalapuram under Ramakuppam police station limits in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district.

Police seized two cars, a gas cylinder, a gas cutter, and an oxygen cylinder from the accused. A total of 8 accused were arrested by the Chittoor police.

According to Chittoor Superintendent of Police, Rishant Reddy, on the night of May 28, the accused tried to rob the Saptagiri Gramin Bank. A case was registered at Ramakuppam police station and special teams were formed to investigate the case.

On Thursday, June 2, based on credible information, four persons were arrested during a vehicle check.

Further investigation revealed that the gang members, all aged between 20-27, inspired by the movie KGF, wanted to make quick money and hatched a plan to rob banks. Interestingly, one of the absconding accused lives in a village near the Kolar gold field.

Charan Kumar’s friend, Uma Mahesh, brought a gas cutter from a scrap shop in Bangalore’s Marthahalli, where he works. SN Manjunath, another accused, arranged for a gas cylinder and oxygen cylinder from Malur.

They broke the bank’s door with a gas cutter, and as they entered the bank to rob it, the alarm sirens went off. The gang fled the scene fearing police were on the way.

One of the arrested accused is a second-year college student in Malur Town of Karnataka’s Kolar District, while another accused was a system operator working for Flipkart.

Police are hunting for CM Chandu, one of the accused, who is absconding.
