Vijayawada, October 15, 2021: In a bizarre incident, a mentally challenged man poured a bottle of petrol on a bus and set it on fire at the RTC bus stand in Kanigiri town in Prakasam district on Thursday morning. Passengers inside the bus quickly doused the flames before they could spread and engulf the bus .
According to Kanigiri police, the incident happened around 8 am. The accused, Ramagiri Yedukondalu, came to the bus stand with a bottle of petrol and entered a random bus. Police said Yedukondalu was from Mogularu village of Veligonda mandal and was mentally unstable.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took Yedukondalu into custody. “He claimed setting the bus on fire was part of a ritual to bring down fuel prices. We have registered a case,” police said according to the reports published in timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
Cops said bus suffered only minor damage.
