North Andhra irrigation projects to be completed in two years

Amaravati, April 29, 2026: Irrigation minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Tuesday announced that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has set a target to complete 11 key irrigation projects in the North Andhra region over the next two years at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore. The announcement came during a review meeting at the Secretariat, where the minister assessed the progress of ongoing irrigation works with senior officials of the department.

Addressing the media, Ramanaidu said that the completion of these projects would create a new ayacut of 2.69 lakh acres while stabilising irrigation facilities across an existing ayacut of 2.49 lakh acres. He emphasized that priority is being given to projects that deliver maximum benefits at lower costs, particularly in drought-prone areas of north Andhra.

According to the reports published in thehansindia.com The minister highlighted that sustained efforts by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu have led to the Centre issuing a gazette notification incorporating the 2021 verdict of the Vamsadhara Water Disputes Tribunal. He noted that this development has cleared all pending hurdles for the construction of the Neradi Barrage in Srikakulam district, a long-pending project crucial for the region. Taking a swipe at the previous government, the minister alleged that no significant investment was made in irrigation projects in North Andhra during the five-year tenure of the YSRCP.
