Vijayawada, May 23, 2023: State-owned power giant, NTPC, has initiated work for a hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh to set up manufacturing facilities for equipment, production, and export of green hydrogen and green ammonia.
“NTPC is entering into hydrogen and energy storage solutions in a big way… Recently, work for a hydrogen hub at Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh was initiated. Also, a storage tender for 9000 M\Vh has been opened;’ said Jaikumar Srinivasan, director – finance, NTPC, at its Q4 FY23 earnings conference call.
He added that a non-binding MoU has been signed with the Government of Andhra Pradesh for development of a hydrogen hub near Visakhapatnam. The project will involve setting up of manufacturing facilities for hydrogen related equipment, production, and export of green hydrogen, green ammonia.
“NTPC has an operational renewable energy capacity of 3.2 GW and total RE capacity in the pipeline has exceeded 20 GW with various agreements in place,” added Srinivasan according to the reports published in economictimes.indiatimes.com.
NTPC has completed consolidation of its RE portfolio under NTPC Green Energy (NGEL). The transaction comprises transfer of 15 RE assets through a business transfer agreement and transfer of 100 per cent equity shareholding of the NTPC Renwable Energy Ltd (REL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, through a share purchase agreement.
Recently, NGEL signed an MoU with HPCL and IOCL for supply of round-the-clock renewable energy. While NREL signed an MoU with the Indian Army for setting up green hydrogen projects in army establishments. NREL has also signed a term sheet with Greenko to supply 13,000 MW round-the-clock RE.
