Omicron in India | Ten more people test positive in Andhra, tally rises to 16

Vijayawada, December 30, 2021: This marks a sharp increase in the number of Omicron cases in Andhra Pradesh. A total of 16 people have now been identified as Omicron positive in the state.

All those tested positive are from West Godavari, Guntur, East Godavari, Chittoor, Anantapur and Kurnool districts. Three contacts (21-year-old male, 39-year-old female and 17-year-old female) of people returning from foreign countries also tested Omicron positive.

Out of those returning from foreign countries, two are female while the rest are male. Four among the seven returnees came from the Middle-East (two from the UAE, one from Saudi Arabia, one from Kuwait), two from the US and one from Nigeria.

All of the infected patients are healthy and in isolation. All contacts of those who tested positive have been traced, tested and the positive samples have been sent for genome sequencing.

Health officials have advised the public to follow the recommended steps, wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash hands regularly, avoid group meetings, functions and gatherings in public places according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.

Health officials also advised that those who are not vaccinated and are yet to take the second dose should get vaccinated immediately as per the timelines.
