Vijayawada, March 25, 2022: The suicide of a Class 10 school topper has rocked the small town of Palamaner in Chittoor. The student, Misbah Fathima, daughter of a ‘soda’ seller, was studying at Brahmarshi High School in Gangavaram.

Ramesh was arrested by Palamaner Police on Friday and booked under sections 306,506 of the IPC. On Thursday, he was suspended from school.

However, it is the suicide note of the girl that has triggered an outrage. Misbah Fathima mentioned that her classmate’s father was pressuring the school management to get her removed so that his daughter becomes the class topper.

Misbah’s family has alleged that the police is going slow against the accused — the classmate’s father, as he is a leader of the ruling party.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam Party leader and son of former CM Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, blamed the YSRCP leader for the girl’s suicide.

He alleged that the deceased, Misbah, had scored more than the YSRCP leader’s daughter and so she was harassed and the school principal’s threats led her to take the extreme step according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.

Lokesh demanded that the YS Jagan Reddy government should take immediate and stringent action against Sunil and the school principal for abetting Misbah’s suicide.

In a statement, the TDP leader said the local YSRCP leaders were harassing the Muslim girl just because she was a topper in her class.

“YSRCP leader Sunil wanted his daughter Poojitha to become a class topper. He was also upset that Misbah was performing far better despite being the daughter of daily wagers — Nazir Ahmad and Naseema,” he said.

Lokesh termed the incident ‘inhuman, terrifying and humiliating’. He said that removing the girl from school for no fault of hers was ‘highly condemnable’.

Opposition leaders demanded stringent punishment for those responsible for her death.
