Vijayawada, July 25, 2021: Alleging that roads in Andhra Pradesh were turning into “death traps” due to neglect, the opposition TDP held a protest in Krishna district on Saturday.

The TDP accused the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government of neglecting road repairs all over the state. The party further alleged that the ruling party had diverted Rs 20,000 crore of R&B funds to other channels, as a result of which the road infrastructure in the state had collapsed.

‘It seems the government will not repair the pot-holed, damaged roads all over the state unless the High Court of Andhra Pradesh passes strictures,” said former minister YVB Rajendra Prasad.

TDP leader Devineni Uma Maheshwar Rao, who was detained during the protest, slammed the deplorable condition of roads, which has further deteriorated because of rains and floods in different parts of the state according to the reports published in indiatoday.in.

“Roads in Andhra Pradesh have turned into death traps due to neglect. But still, the Jagan Reddy regime is least bothered about maintaining these roads in proper condition. Many people are losing their lives in road accidents while their families are being thrown onto the roads due to loss of breadwinners,” Rao told India Today.

In addition to roads not being repaired despite a Rs 20,000 crore given in funds to the R&B department, the TDP leadership also alleged corruption in the allocation of road repair contracts in the state.

“Is it not a fact that all these multi-crore funds were diverted to other programmes? All sections of people are suffering and facing a variety of existential threats because of the thoughtless policies of the ruling YSRCP leaders,” the opposition party charged.
