Very Heavy Rains To Lash Tamil Nadu; Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala In for Heavy Rainfall

New Delhi, November 01, 2022: Here’s the weather outlook for India:

Tuesday (November 1)

  • Fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall may occur in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Karaikal and Puducherry.
  • Heavy rainfall may lash Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Mahe and Kerala.
  • Scattered showers with thunderstorms are likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rains with a chance of lightning are forecast over Odisha, Telangana, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka.
  • Isolated snowfall or rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh due to a western disturbance.
  • Dense fog is possible over North and Central India early in the morning.

Wednesday (November 2)

  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are on the cards over Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe.
  • Scattered showers with thunderstorms are likely over Coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep.
  • Isolated rainfall with a chance of lightning is forecast over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Telangana, Konkan, Goa, and North Interior Karnataka.
  • Dense fog is likely in North and Central India during early morning.

5-day nationwide forecast

With northeasterly winds setting in over the Bay of Bengal and South Peninsular India, the Northeast Monsoon rains have already arrived in southeast peninsular India. Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation (CC) over the southwest Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast is likely to be almost stagnant for the next several days. Furthermore, a trough runs above the CC to the southeast of the Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast.

Under the influence of the above systems, heavy rainfall (≧65mm/day) is possible in some areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe during this period. Heavy downpours (≧115mm/day) may occur over isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Tuesday, November 1.

Additionally, a fresh western disturbance (WD) is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region on Tuesday, resulting in light/moderate rainfall at isolated to scattered places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

As for the mercury levels, maximum temperatures are forecast to be below normal in some areas of South India and slightly above normal in other places during this period. Except for Western India, a warmer trend is expected for overnight minimums during the projection period for other areas, including the Western Himalayan region according to the reports published in weather.com.
