Vijayawada, September 25, 2026: Four more rain-related deaths were reported on Friday, taking the total count during the heavy rains triggered by the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh to nine. The death count was five till Thursday night (September 24).
A 60-year-old man, identified as Punem Bhaskar Rao (60), was washed away in a swelling stream near Kannapuram in Buttaigudem mandal of Eluru district late on Thursday night.
The incident occurred when Bhaskar Rao was trying to cross the overflowing stream on his way to his village, said the local residents.
In another incident, one person died and nine more were injured when a fish-laden lorry overturned near Pathuru village in Bhimadole mandal of Eluru district amid heavy rains.
The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Shah (53), a native of West Bengal. The injured were admitted to a government hospital nearby, the Bhimadole police said.
Meanwhile, two siblings were electrocuted at Jatlapalem village of Pentapadu mandal in West Godavari district on Friday, pushing the total electrocution death toll to seven according to the reports published in thehindu.com.
Surya (14) and Sai (12) were electrocuted after they came in contact with an earthing GI wire that was live.
Road cut-off
The road link between Tiruvuru and Utukuru and the neighbouring villages in NTR District was cut off after the main road was submerged on Friday. The police suspended vehicular traffic on the stretch and arranged a picket, said Mylavaram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) P. Ramchandra Rao.
Trees were uprooted at Tadigadapa and Krishnalanka due to heavy rains in Vijayawada. The officials cleared the roads and resumed traffic on Friday.
